Global 3D Printing 2.0

On November 3, 2023 the official kick-off of the 3D Global 3D Printing 2.0 Project took place at BBS Soltau, Germany. This project continues where the initial 3D printing project ended.

September 2023 - April 2026

This initial 1.0 project generated such positive results and high energy, that all 4 partners, together with 5 new partners, signed up for a follow-up project to push the student's and teacher's learning experience to the next level. It concerns the following partners:

  • Nova College, Beverwijk campus, The Netherlands
  • Regio College, Zaandam, The Netherlands (new)
  • BBS Soltau, Soltau Germany
  • BBS Verden, Verden Germany (new)
  • Teknikum, Växjö, Sweden
  • Pauliskolan, Malmö, Sweden (new)
  • Oakton Communicty College, Oakton Chicaco, US
  • La Guardia Community College, New York (new)
  • Pasadena City College (New)

The project is managed by 1 for all education, a foundation with its roots in Nova College, with an aim to connect tech schools in their pursuit to offer creative, meaningful, digital and fun education.

Project setup

In this project VET tech students design and construct a 3 meter tall statue. In each school, a statue will arise, consisting of 3D printed building blocks on which each student designs and prints its SDG message to the world. Each statue will hold messages from Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the US.

Deliverables

The Global Printing 2.0 project will finetune, professionalize and digitize the learning materials that were develop in the 1.0 project (learning goals, assessment criteria, instruction manuals/YouTube video’s, best-case practices, templates, etc.) for both teachers and students, such that these become accessible in an online (app based) learning portal.

Learning Activities

  • classes on sustainability and the SDGs
  • design classes
  • CAD/CAM design, cloud storage and printing of designs (digital skills)
  • presenting project results (improving presentation and English language skills)
  • international student exchanges to partner schools (intercultural and language skills)
  • teacher training for VET teachers
  • overall: improving soft skills such as listening, collaborating, problem solving, dialogue skills between students, teachers and partner schools

Long term aim

To have 3D printing and related technologies incorporated in the curricula of current and future partner schools. The 2.0 project aims to lay the foundations for new partnerships, preparing new products and designs with the use of new production technologies.
